Stroke
Stroke is one of the most common diseases today. It is a condition where the brain is deprived of blood, caused by narrowing, blockage, or rupture of blood vessels in the brain. This damages brain tissue and affects brain function, such as causing paralysis, speech difficulties, or vision loss. The main cause is blockage of blood vessels supplying the brain, leading to a lack of oxygen and ultimately brain death.
Risk factors for stroke(STROKE)
Divided into 2 factors:
Unpreventable factors such as
- Age
- Gender
- Blood clotting faster than normal
Preventable factors such as
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
- High cholesterol
- Heart disease
- Smoking
- Contraceptive use
- Lack of exercise
Symptoms of stroke patients
Can be observed from abnormal symptoms by noting the following key signs
- Weak arms and legs, numbness on one side of the face or body
- Facial droop, inability to speak, drooling, communication problems, incomprehensible speech, inability to speak, tongue weakness
- Severe headache, dizziness without known cause
- Blurred vision, loss of balance, double vision
- Loss of balance, unsteady gait, some may faint or lose consciousness
If you notice any of these symptoms, even just one, do not ignore or take it lightly. You should immediately send the patient to the hospital for a doctor to examine and determine the true cause of the symptoms.
Diagnostic Examination
Several methods can be used for diagnosis, such as blood tests to check blood sugar levels, blood lipid levels, tests for blood vessel inflammation, electrocardiograms (ECG), electroencephalograms (EEG), blood flow velocity measurements, and brain scans, among others.
Treatment of stroke patients
Treatment of stroke patients can be divided into 2 parts
Patients with acute ischemic stroke
- The doctor will prescribe blood thinners, but treatment must be within 4 hours for normal blood circulation.
Patients with a ruptured brain blood vessel
- Doctors need to control blood volume and maintain normal blood pressure. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to prevent brain damage caused by blood pressure changes.
Prevention of Stroke
Prevention of stroke can be achieved by controlling risk factors that can be managed, such as preventing high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol. Maintain a balanced diet, avoid salty, sweet, and high-fat foods. Quit smoking and exercise regularly. Additionally, medications to prevent blood vessel blockage, such as antiplatelet drugs and anticoagulants, can be used. However, medication use should be under close supervision of a physician.
