The higher it gets, the faster it deteriorates—definitely not good.
This is about controlling things that shouldn’t be allowed to get too high in older age, because it may lead to various diseases and complications.
1. Weight
Older adults need to control their weight well to reduce the risk of various diseases, because obesity can worsen the symptoms of some diseases and increase the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and high blood lipids, which increases the chance of ischemic heart disease and paralysis (stroke).
2. Blood pressure
High blood pressure often has no noticeable symptoms, but it develops gradually, like a “silent killer.” If left untreated, it can lead to many complications, such as retinal degeneration, kidney failure, and narrowing or rupture of the coronary or cerebral blood vessels, which can occur acutely.
3. Cholesterol
The danger of high blood lipid levels is that excess fat can stick to the walls of blood vessels, making the vessel walls thicker and harder, and causing narrowing or blockage more easily. If it occurs in the blood vessels supplying the brain, it can lead to weakness or paralysis. If it occurs in the coronary arteries, it can cause reduced blood flow to the heart muscle. If it occurs in the blood vessels of the legs, it can cause pain when walking, or the toes may turn dark/black due to lack of blood supply.
