Dental Spa
It is a dental cleaning that not only involves scaling to remove tartar (hard deposits) from the tooth surface, but also eliminates biofilm stains, which are a source of tooth decay and gum disease.
What is biofilm?
Biofilm, or microbial plaque, is something that is always present on the tooth surface. When a clean tooth surface comes into contact with saliva, the mucins in saliva form a thin film coating the tooth surface. Over time, bacteria in the mouth colonize it, and if the biofilm remains attached long enough, it develops into plaque and eventually becomes tartar (calculus).
Brushing properly on a regular basis removes biofilm before it changes into a thicker deposit with a much higher bacterial load, helping to effectively prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

It consists of 3 main steps:
1. Stain the teeth with plaque disclosing gel
In this step, the dentist applies blue gel to the surface of every tooth in the mouth, then rinses it off with water. The dye that has embedded
in the plaque will appear in 2 forms:
- Dark blue stains This is thick plaque that has accumulated for more than 48 hours, indicating that the patient has not been able to clean that area thoroughly. This type of plaque contains a dense amount of bacteria and may therefore cause diseases of the gums and teeth.
- Red stain This is a thin plaque that has formed within the last 48 hours, indicating that the patient’s current toothbrushing technique can clean these areas.
2. The treating dentist will have the patient look at the dye in the mirror together and provide advice on how to
properly clean the teeth.
3. Airflow polishing – the dentist cleans the plaque revealed by the dye using a special tool
called Airflow, which gently cleans the surface of every tooth in the mouth and reaches every nook and cranny thoroughly
