Back pain treatable without surgery (Spinal Intervention)
Dr. Mantean Sirisuntornlak
Currently, back pain is considered a major problem found in all age groups
and almost everyone has this problem, to varying degrees.
The common causes of back pain among young people are as follows:
- Back muscle and ligament inflammation and tension (Back Strain, Myofascial pain syndrome, Office Syndrome)
Office Syndrome)
Cervical disc herniation or degenerative disc disease, pressing on nerves
Cervical disc herniation, Lumbar disc herniation

Often caused by daily activities or poor posture. Common in working-age adults.
Treated with rest, work modification, medication, physical therapy. In cases where the herniated disc presses on nerves but is not severe, steroid injections are currently available.

Enter the nerve root canal and spinal canal (Selective nerve root block & Epidural steroid injection)
Which are highly effective anti-inflammatory drugs that reduce inflammation of the intervertebral disc and nerve roots
Nerves, reducing swelling and inflammation, decreasing nerve compression
Lessens symptoms and can help avoid surgery
Common causes of back pain in the elderly include:
- Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fracture
- Spinal degeneration and spinal canal stenosis compressing the nerves

Usually occurs in the elderly. In cases of osteoporosis, bones are more prone to fracture, especially the spine.
In cases where the bones do not heal, it can cause severe pain. Currently, there are non-surgical treatment options available.
By injecting liquid cement into the fractured vertebra (Vertebroplasty) once the cement hardens.
Within 15 minutes, the support will prevent the bones from collapsing, and the pain will immediately subside. The patient can return to
live normally
for degenerative spinal disc disease and spinal stenosis compressing the nerves (Spinal stenosis)
In cases where the symptoms are just beginning or not severe, steroid injections may be used
into the nerve root canal and spinal canal (SNRB & ESI)
To avoid surgery as well, but if it is severe, surgery may be necessary
Decompressive Laminectomy (surgical procedure to enlarge the spinal canal and nerve root openings)
which is not complicated and does not require bone fusion or metal fixation, making the back not stiff, allowing for quick recovery, and symptoms
will improve gradually
